Looks like May will be a good month for Monkees fans in the UK, and June and July will be happy days for Monkees fans in the USA (and Canada, as it appears they’ll be north of the border for their two Niagra Falls area dates).

Sweet. Now If I could just win the lottery so I could afford to quit my job and go to all these shows…

I guess it’s true what they say in the latest round of Honda commercials… the only thing that doesn’t last about a Honda is the once-a-year sale.

This is my second Honda. The first, a CRX, was an amazing vehicle. When it was 10 years old and had about 160,000 miles on it, I drove it from the NYC metro area to Wilson, NC on a single tank of gas… while it was fully loaded with luggage, pets and all sorts of junk (we were moving).

And that was nearly two years after a mechanic had advised us to hold on to it just through the winter, then get a new vehicle. Over the years it had been stolen twice and broken in to another time, been in a couple of fender-benders and a hail storm or two. Finally, the mechanics broke two tools trying to loosen some bolts to get in and replace the timing belt. (Never could get in, and the belt was past due for a replacement, which is why the mechanic told us to dump the car – we all knew at that point we were living on borrowed time. We simply managed to “borrow” nearly two years more than what he thought.)

But even with all that it was still getting 48-50MPG on the highway. And it was still way fun to drive, peppy and nimble despite its advanced age and mileage.

I loves me my Hondas.

So, anyway, it’s the afternoon after our big annual Thanksgiving feast. The company provides turkey, ham, stuffing/gravy and a few veggies. We bring in the rest of the side dishes and desserts. Of course, we generally have enough to feed about twice as many employees as actually work here.

And I go to a weigh-in at the doctor’s office tomorrow. This should be interesting.

I made my “famous” seven-layer salad. Cut the quantity just a bit this time around. We’ve got a bunch of people on vacation and such this week, so there weren’t as many employees sitting down to eat. Well, to be honest, after the way the economy’s been going this past year or so, we just don’t have as many employees sitting down to eat even when nobody’s on vacation.

But it was a good meal with good company. We’re all thankful we still have jobs this year, and we’re looking forward to a better year in 2010.

I just wanted to say I find it very discouraging when one meal can undo two months of work. We just had a big anniversary banquet at work. I didn’t even eat as much as I usually do at this sort of thing, and still woke up the next day five pounds heavier than the day before. And the weight doesn’t seem to be in any big hurry to go away.

Bummer.

I’m so darned connected, I don’t have time to talk to anybody anymore.

But that’s the way life goes.

What I’m doing now: trying to ignore The Bee Gees’ Tragedy screeching over our office “music” service. It’s difficult, but it only lasts a few minutes. Ignoring the whole “working for a living” thing itself is much harder.
